93% of the creators I've studied have used social media to grow their email lists. And I did too.
In the early days of Growth In Reverse, I was posting constantly, mostly on old Twitter (RIP). The newsletter grew to 21,000 subscribers in 10 months, and social media played a huge role in that.
Then I "got busy" and stopped posting. In the last 12 months, I've posted just 43 times. That's about 3.5 a month, and most of those were me checking the "I posted today" box.
My newsletter growth reflects that. It's been flat for a while, and I want to change that.
So for 90 days, I'm trying to get 3,000 new email subscribers from social media. Only social. No recommendations, no referrals, no other sources. Just organic posts that send people to the newsletter.
3 questions I want to answer
- What's working on social right now to drive subscribers?
- Can I turn social back into a reliable growth channel?
- Do I want to be back on social media long term?
The plan
I'm still figuring it out. What I do know: I'll create mostly for LinkedIn and repost to Substack, X, Threads and Facebook. The goal is to post daily (maybe more if it's working).
Will I hit it?
Honestly, probably not. I haven't posted consistently in a while, so this feels a little like starting over. That's why it's an experiment.
